EyeShield Privacy Policy

EyeShield (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is a digital wellness app published by
Vistalytix (com.vistalytix.eyeshield). This policy explains what
information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have.
EyeShield is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. It offers on-device reminders about viewing distance and blink habits to support healthier screen use.
Information we process on your device
Most EyeShield data stays on your phone and is not uploaded to our servers by the app:
- Wellness settings (thresholds, alerts, voice options, allowed background apps, and similar preferences).
- Local analytics history (distance and blink summaries you view in the app).
- Monitoring session state needed to run reminders.
You can clear app data from Android system settings, which removes locally stored information.
Camera and on-device analysis
When you start monitoring, EyeShield uses the front camera to estimate viewing distance and blink patterns. Processing uses on-device machine learning (including Google ML Kit face detection on supported builds).
Camera frames are analyzed in memory for wellness estimates. EyeShield does not save camera frames to your photo gallery and does not send camera video to our servers.
Monitoring pauses when the screen is off on supported Android builds.
Sign-in (Google / Firebase)
EyeShield requires a Google account to use the app. When you sign in with Google, Firebase Authentication and Google Sign-In process account information such as your name, email address, and profile photo URL to create and maintain your session.
You can sign out at any time in Settings → Account. You can delete your Firebase account from Settings → Account → Delete account, which removes the authentication record associated with your sign-in. A public deletion guide is at Account deletion.
Wellness settings and local analytics remain on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the app.
Crash and diagnostics data
To improve stability, EyeShield uses Firebase Crashlytics (Google). When the app crashes or encounters certain errors, diagnostic information such as stack traces, device model, operating system version, and app version may be sent to Google’s Firebase service.
If you are signed in, we may associate crash reports with an anonymous user identifier from Firebase Auth to help investigate issues affecting signed-in users.
Android permissions you control
EyeShield requests only what it needs for features you use:
- Camera — required for distance and blink monitoring while a session is active.
- Notifications — wellness alerts (required on Android 13+ for notification-style alerts).
- Display over other apps (optional) — small banner alerts above other apps when enabled in Settings.
- Usage access (optional) — detects which app is in the foreground for “allowed apps only” background monitoring.
- Battery optimization exemption (optional) — helps keep monitoring reliable in the background on some devices.
- Accessibility service (optional, if offered) — this build does not use it to read screen text or passwords.
You can revoke permissions at any time in Android Settings.
Third-party services
EyeShield relies on services operated by third parties, including Google (Firebase, Google Sign-In, ML Kit, and Crashlytics) and your device manufacturer’s Android platform. Their handling of data is governed by their own policies.
We do not sell your personal information.
Children
EyeShield is a general wellness app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through sign-in, contact us and we will help remove the account.
Security and retention
We use industry-standard practices through Firebase and platform providers to protect sign-in and crash data. Locally stored wellness data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Crash reports retained by Firebase are subject to Google’s retention policies.
Your choices
- Sign out in Settings → Account (you must sign in again to use the app).
- Turn off optional permissions you do not want.
- Disable monitoring at any time from the app.
- Sign out or delete your account in Settings → Account.
- Uninstall the app to remove local data from your device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
