KidSafeNest Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 6, 2026
KidSafeNest is designed for children under the age of 13. We are committed to protecting children’s privacy and complying with applicable child privacy laws, including COPPA and Google Play Families Policy.
1. Information we collect
Child information (with parental consent)
With verified parental consent, we may collect:
- Child’s first name (for profile personalization)
- Child’s profile photo (optional; parents may choose a predefined avatar instead)
We do not collect full legal name, home address, school information, location data, or contacts.
Parent account information
- Google account email address (via Google Sign-In)
- Firebase user ID for the signed-in parent
We do not collect a separate parent phone number in the app.
Account & cloud sync data (when signed in)
- Child profile details and parental control settings
- Parent-approved YouTube video IDs and profile assignments
- Watch limits and usage summaries
Parent PIN is stored locally on the device as a hash only and is not uploaded to our servers.
Device app lock (Android, optional)
If a parent enables device app lock, we may store parent-approved Android app package names and whether device lock is enabled. When active, the app may use Usage access, Display over other apps, and a foreground service. Foreground app detection is processed on-device and is not uploaded for advertising or profiling.
2. Safe content (no open web browsing)
KidSafeNest does not include a general web browser and does not collect web browsing history. Children cannot freely browse the internet inside the app.
Children may access:
- Parent-approved YouTube videos only (added by a parent in the app)
- Built-in offline poems, stories, and games
- Optional parent-selected Android apps when device app lock is enabled
When parents search or paste a YouTube link, KidSafeNest applies kid-safety checks through the YouTube Data API, including SafeSearch strict, Made for Kids eligibility, embeddability, duration limits (Shorts and very long videos excluded), and content keyword filtering. Videos that fail are not added.
Optional story “read source online” links are limited to trusted Project Gutenberg domains. Other URLs are blocked.
3. How we use information
We use collected information to create and manage child profiles, personalize learning, communicate with parents, provide support, improve functionality, and operate optional Android device app lock when enabled.
We do not sell personal data or use data for behavioral advertising.
Banner ads may appear on parent-only screens using non-personalized ad requests through Google Mobile Ads. Children do not see in-app ads or ads during video playback. See Section 9 for details.
4. Parental consent
We collect child personal information only after obtaining parental consent. Parents may review their child’s information, request deletion, modify profiles, enable or disable device app lock, change allowed apps, or withdraw consent at any time.
Delete data in the app:
- Remove a child profile: Parent Dashboard → Manage Profiles → Remove
- Delete full parent account: Settings → Legal & Policies → Delete Account
Online guide: Account deletion. Contact: support@vistalytix.com
5. Photo handling
If a parent uploads a child photo, it is stored securely, used only within the child’s profile, never shared publicly, and can be deleted at any time. Parents may use a predefined avatar instead of a real photo.
6. Data security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data. However, no system is 100% secure.
7. Data sharing
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share limited information only with service providers necessary to operate the app, or when required by law.
8. Data retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to provide services. Parents may delete child profiles or the full parent account in the app at any time. See Account deletion for steps and what is removed.
9. Third-party services
KidSafeNest may use:
- Google Play Services
- Firebase (authentication and cloud sync)
- Firebase Crashlytics (release builds; crash diagnostics)
- Google Mobile Ads (banner ads on parent-only screens; non-personalized ad requests)
- YouTube Data API (parent video search metadata)
- YouTube Embedded Player API (approved video playback)
Ads are not shown in child mode or on the video player. These services may collect technical information under their own privacy policies.
10. Your rights (parents)
Parents may access, correct, request deletion of, or withdraw consent for their child’s data.
To exercise these rights, use in-app deletion (Manage Profiles or Settings → Delete Account), follow our Account deletion guide, or email support@vistalytix.com or privacy@vistalytix.com.
11. Device app lock (Android)
Device app lock is an optional parent-controlled feature. Parents choose which installed apps a child may open. KidSafeNest is always included in the allowed list.
When enabled, the app may request Usage access, Display over other apps, Foreground service, Notifications, battery optimization exemption, and optionally the default Home app role. Allowed app package names may be stored locally and synced to the signed-in parent account in Firebase. We do not sell this information or use it for behavioral advertising.
Device lock helps restrict access but may be bypassed on some devices. Parents remain responsible for supervising device use.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Updates will be reflected with a new “Last updated” date.
